Negative COVID-19 test now required to enter the United States & Canada

Effective January 26, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will require all air passengers entering the United States (including U.S. citizens and Legal Permanent Residents) to present a negative COVID-19 test, taken within three calendar days of departure, or proof of recovery from the virus within the last 90 days. Airlines must confirm the negative test result or proof of recent recovery for all passengers prior to boarding. Airlines must deny boarding of passengers who do not provide documentation of a negative test or recovery.

For Canadian citizens and visitors, documentation of a negative laboratory test result must be presented to the airline prior to boarding a flight to Canada. The test must be performed using a COVID-19 molecular polymerase chain reaction (or PCR) test and must be taken within 72 hours prior to the traveller’s scheduled departure to Canada. Anyone who receives a negative test result and is authorized to enter Canada must still complete the full, mandatory 14-day quarantine.

How to get a COVID-19 test in Isla Mujeres?

Posada del Mar has made arrangements with two local providers of both PCR and Antigen tests. Prices range from USD $56 to USD $140 and samples can be taken at the provider location or at the hotel, and the results are sent to you via email. Remember to take the test 72 hours prior your departure to make sure you get your results on time. Please ask the Front Desk for more information.

What happens if you test positive?

Isla Mujeres has a very limited healthcare infraestructure. COVID-19 patients are transported to Cancun for care. If you test positive, you will be asked to quarantine in Cancun, where the tourism authorities have designated a group of hotels for that purpose. You cannot stay at Posada del Mar if you test positive for COVID-19. Please ask the Front Desk for more information.
